What we are doing

As an environmental research institute, our collective ecological expertise is the foundation of our work. Our scientists possess deep knowledge of ecosystems, species interactions, and environmental processes. Combining this expertise with leading technologies and research techniques, we deliver models and tools to help answer the complex questions posed by governments and resource managers.

ARI has a long history of developing new research techniques and embracing technology to make our work more efficient and our science more useful. Our home-grown innovations include:

  • co-developing the world’s first saline electrofishing boat;
  • adapting thermal missile tracking technology for counting microbats;
  • training artificial intelligence to identify species through their calls.

Here we showcase some of these technology and skills that enable us to delivery quality environmental research.
