What we are doing

We collaborate with governments and resource managers to address complex policy problems and improve biodiversity outcomes. Our research provides our partners with an evidence base to inform policy and management decisions. We work directly with end users to provide research that informs their decisions, ensuring our work is impactful and tailored to their needs.

A modern science institute for the future

Our expertise is always evolving to meet the current and future needs of government. When we were established in the 1970s, ARI was predominantly a field-survey and monitoring organisation. Since then, we have continued to develop into a contemporary research institute that leverages expertise from numerous fields including computer sciences, behaviour change science, genetics and spatial modelling. These expanding capabilities give us the tools to meet the increasingly complex needs of government and decision-makers.

As a research institute within the public service, we operate for the benefit of Victorians and are uniquely positioned to provide trusted, scientifically sound advice.
